Mentor Tips
January was National Mentoring Month, so we collected some tips from six of our Cohort Four Mentors to share with you!
“The biggest thing we talk about and that I've always taken from every female mentor I've ever had..."You're not alone." At any given time, we have similar feelings...stressed, overwhelmed, conflicted between work and our families, not prepared enough, nervous...and sometimes it even feels like drowning. But talking about it and sharing it with others almost always eases the burden...our feelings and emotions are not usually unique...they are usually shared. And knowing that we all feel them at any given time in our life and career, it helps us feel a bond, it helps us lift our chins and spirits and remind ourselves..."hey, I can do this” - Danielle Harmon, Co-Owner, Alzavino Wine Tavern
”The more definition you can give to your goals, the more tactical you can be to achieve them. Once you have that clarity of what you are working towards, you can further develop skills, experience, networking & mentorship to support you in your pursuit.” - Raechel Peters, SVP of Marketing, Community Choice Financial
“I would say Connect and Collaborate!” - Molly Crowe, VP of Human Resources, Kanza Cooperative Association
“As women today, we can do everything we want to do, we just can't do it all at the same time. (Swiped from Eunice Kennedy Shriver.) To me, it means that it's ok to let our lives (and our careers) have seasons. Each season is important in preparing us for the next.” - Karen Duling, Leadership Development Strategist
“The path to a fulfilling life is punctuated by challenging conversations, difficult decisions and moments that bring you to your knees. Embracing each one with courage, curiosity and gratitude not only determines your success, it defines who you become.” - Anita Greenwood, CEO & Executive Coach, Powerhouse Leaders
“Guard against applying ‘forever’ pressure to decisions that don’t bet the ranch and really only create short-term commitments. Dive into experiments, watching what results you get, and then change again (or back) if needed. Testing new approaches teaches you lots AND increases your comfort level with change, which is a true superpower!” - Mary Beth Jarvis, Executive Director, NXTUS
